Introducing Beagle Orthopaedic

Ricoh 3D is delighted to announce that is has partnered with Beagle Orthopaedic to accelerate its medical additive manufacturing provision.

Beagle Orthopaedic, the premier UK provider of orthopaedic goods, bespoke healthcare products, and custom fabrication devices, has been chosen as the official commercial distributor of the Ankle CCD Lever Kit – a collaborative innovation between The Orthotic & Locomotor Assessment Unit (ORLAU) of The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, NHS Foundation Trust and Ricoh 3D.

Partnership Benefits

One of the main benefits of the newly formed partnership is the ability to seamlessly integrate product lines, enabling full end-to-end solutions in medical manufacturing and healthcare solutions.

This aligns with RICOH’s commitment to supporting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically, SDG3 – Good Health and Wellbeing.

In this instance, Beagle commented: “Our dedicated Custom Fabrication division is fully equipped to integrate the Ankle CCD Lever Kit into our fabricated ankle foot orthoses (AFOs), resulting in the creation of a full Ankle Contracture Correction Device (CCD).

“Now, when healthcare professionals complete ORLAU’s Orthotic Management of Contractures training course, the Lever Kit – or full device – can be purchased directly from Beagle.”

Orthotic Management of Contractures

The training course is designed to educate technicians and clinicians on the safe and effective set-up, assembly and application of the Lever Kit, in addition to providing ‘best practice’ tips for assembly and rehabilitation.

The next training date is Tuesday 2 October 2024, at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, NHS Foundation Trust, Oswestry, Shropshire, SY10 7AG. To book or for further information, please visit the link above, or contact kmiller10@nhs.net.

The Lever Kit – including the lever itself, 3D printed in Nylon-12 using Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) technology, applies compression to a gas spring, which in turn, applies tension to a patient’s lower limb for rehabilitation.

Compared to traditional tension tools, the lever not only improves ergonomics and the ‘donning and doffing’ process, but also facilities a smooth application of stretching torque to further aid the rehab process. The innovative design also boasts a semi-automatic locking mechanism in the operating position, without additional tools, ensuring simplicity and ease of use for patients and caregivers.

Reflections

Reflecting on the new partnership, Ricoh 3D’s Head of Additive Manufacturing, Mark Dickin commented: “This partnership will accelerate the growth of our medical strategy, providing us with greater access to the industry through Beagle Orthopaedic’s established network.

“By joining forces, we can concentrate on developing innovative solutions that address the needs of healthcare professionals and patients, while Beagle expertly manages the distribution of these advancements.

“We’re excited to see how this collaboration will enhance our ability to deliver comprehensive end-to-end solutions in medical manufacturing, furthering our commitment to improving social issues and well-being as outlined in the SDGs.”
