At the end of 2024, RICOH Company Limited announced two ESG and SDGs accolades, received in recognition of the business’ continued global commitment to sustainability.

Nikkei Sustainable Comprehensive Survey 2024

In November 2024, RICOH announced that it received the highest ‘five-star’ rating in the SDGs Management edition of Nikkei Sustainable Comprehensive Survey 2024, by Nikkei Inc. This marks the sixth consecutive year that RICOH has achieved the five-star rating with a standard score of over seventy.

Based on the survey result, RICOH was recognised as one of the “Prime Seat Companies” in the Nikkei SDGs Management Awards, which recognises leading companies that contribute to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Prime Seat Companies, a new designation Nikkei introduced for 2024, recognises companies that continue to receive high evaluations for their outstanding efforts in SDGs, as companies continue to improve the quality of their SDGs initiatives year by year, and RICOH was selected as one of the inaugural recipients.

The 2024 Nikkei SDGs Management Awards evaluates Japanese companies that address resolving social, economic, and environmental issues through their businesses while enhancing corporate values by integrating SDGs to their management strategies.

The survey itself comprises questions from four areas—SDGs strategy and economic value, social value, environmental value, and governance—and uses eighteen evaluation criteria created based on corporate surveys and publicly available data to comprehensively assess companies’ SDGs management.

At the November award ceremony for the recognised companies, Akira Oyama, president and CEO of RICOH, stated in his acceptance speech: “I am deeply honoured to receive this prestigious recognition as a Prime Seat Company and incredibly proud of our employees, whose dedication has been instrumental in advancing these initiatives.

“We will continue leveraging the power of digital technologies to resolve social issues surrounding working people and support their ability to unleash their creativity.

“Rooted in our diverse corporate culture, where every employee is empowered to thrive, the RICOH Group is committed to continuous evolution.”

Dow Jones Sustainability World Index

In December 2024, RICOH announced that it has also been selected for inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World Index), one of the world’s most renowned indices for ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), for the fifth consecutive year.

DJSI, compiled by Dow Jones & Company and sustainability investment research firm S&P Global, was the first global sustainability index to assess a company’s corporate sustainability from the economic, environmental, and social development perspectives.

DJSI reviewed approximately 3,500 major companies worldwide, selecting 321 companies for this year’s DJSI World Index.

RICOH’s approach to sustainability is to pursue a sustainable society through a Three Ps Balance—Prosperity (economic), People (society), and Planet (environment).

To realise this desired society, RICOH has identified seven material issues in two areas: “Resolving social issues through business” and “Robust management infrastructure,” as well as setting 16 ESG targets in linkage with the material issues, and is implementing specific initiatives to achieve them.

Reflecting on RICOH’s recent accolades, Head of Additive Manufacturing, Mark Dickin commented: “We are incredibly proud to see RICOH Company Limited recognised in the Nikkei Sustainable Comprehensive Survey 2024 and the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index. These accolades reflect our shared commitment to realising a sustainable future.

“At Ricoh 3D, we are proud to contribute to this global vision through our innovative additive manufacturing technologies and applications, which are not only transforming industries but also addressing critical social issues, from reducing waste to enabling more efficient, cost-effective, sustainable production methods.

“As part of our support for the SDGs , we have committed to using a minimum of 30% renewable energy by 2030 and 100% by 2050, and we have also committed to reducing the use of new resources by 50% in 2030 and 93% in 2050.”
