With FDM 3D printing it is possible to alter the internal structure of a part irrespective of how the design file has been generated. Where other print technologies would require the STL file to be created with internal structures designed into the part, the software used in FDM printing allows us to change the structures at the click of a button.
The FDM print options allow us to produce parts with internal structures defined as solid, sparse and sparse double dense. These options allow parts to be printed more cost effectively, by using less material than if the part was printed with a solid structure. It also creates more lightweight parts. The external appearance of the part is not effected by the internal structure settings.
