Scan To STL
Need a Printable File?
Cloud point data (available from our 3D Scanning service) can be converted into a mesh a.k.a. an STL file. This is the information used by 3D printing machines to convert design data into physical objects.
By triangulating the points, surface information is formed as a representation of the shape used to capture the original scanned data. Greater numbers of triangulations result in more accurate shape as well as a greater file size. Typically the triangle resolution is far greater than is needed for good quality prints.
Getting a Quality File
With the triangulation method of creating a mesh, faults can occur such as gaps between triangles or overlaps. This can affect file quality, both for printing and for editing. RICOH Rapid Fab are able to correct these faults and ensure the final STL is fit for purpose. This service is available for scanned objects or can be applied to your own produced STL files.
Beyond this, if required, a freeform surface CAD model can also be produced through the Reverse Engineering service.
